As part of the Medicare Modernization Act, the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug
Benefit was introduced in 2006 to much fanfare and confusion. Patients did not fully
understand the benefit coverage, or "gaps" in coverage, and did not know how to fully
evaluate competing Prescription Drug Benefit Plans (PDP's). This informative
program, Volume 19 in the Current Concepts in Pharmacy Management series,
Medicare Part D - Understanding Its Impact on Health-System Pharmacy, will bring
viewers a more complete understanding of the Part D benefit, enabling them to advise
patients regarding plan options. Participants will also learn more about establishing
Medication Therapy Management Services and the expected impact of the Part D
benefit on pharmaceutical manufacturer's Patient Assistance Programs.
This program features interviews with four thought leaders:
Daniel Buffington, PharmD, Practice Director, Clinical Pharmacology Services, Inc.
David M. Franklin, MSA, Vice President of Business Operations, Advanced Care
Provider Network
Anne Jarrett, RPh, MS, Assistant Director of Pharmacy (reimbursement specialist),
Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center
JoAnn Stubbings, MHCA, Manager of Research and Public Policy, Ambulatory Care
Pharmacy Services, University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy
