The new medication management standards published by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) offer hospital pharmacists exciting challenges and opportunities. These stnadards, which are more prescriptive than those of the past, provide hospital pharmacists with the backing they need to implement policies and procedures meant to achieve unprecedented levels of patient safety.
